Mr. Sawamura currently fires his work in a climbing kiln and an anagama kiln located in Hino, Shiga Prefecture. This is because climbing kilns were banned in Kyoto in 1968 due to smoke regulations. Wishing to faithfully reproduce the original Kiyomizu-yaki style, Mr. Sawamura is dedicated to creating works fired with wood. His pieces are filled with his passion, featuring sophisticated hand-painting that reflects the Kyoto aesthetic and the unique effects of the climbing kiln's flames.
